Research projects, publications, and conferences

 

Since the Department of Sociology was founded, it had conducted many research projects sponsored by the National Social Science Fund, including “Migrant Children and Their Acculturation in Cities,” “the Harmony between People and Water—Investigations in the Tai Lake and the Huai Basin,” “a Sociological Analysis of the Problems of Property Rights in Rural Land Transactions,” “the Transformation of Urban Residents’ Consumption in the Light of Constructing a Low-carbon Society,” “Villagers' Environmental Actions and Rural Non-point Source Pollution,” “the Acculturation of migrant workers’ Children in Cities,” and “the Social Risks of industrial pollution in the coast of Jiangsu and Zhejiang.” Also, it conducted two projects sponsored by the Ministry of Education’s Humanity and Social Science Fund, that is, “an Assessment of Social Welfare for Rural Housing Transactions” and “a Study of Small Irrigation System.” Moreover, it conducted too projects sponsored by Jiangsu Provincial Social Science Fund, that is, “a Sociological Analysis of Water Pollution in the Tai Lake” and “the Sense of Power of the New Generation of Migrant Workers.” Besides, it conducted three projects sponsored by the National Postdoctoral Fund, that is, “a Comparative Study of the Social Networks of Farmers Who Lost Their Land in the Process of Urbanization and Migrant Workers,” “Analyzing the Categorization of Environmental Pollution—a Sociological Perspective,” and “a Sociological Analysis of the Problems of Property Rights in Rural Forest Transactions.

The Department of Sociology also conducted projects sponsored by China Association for Science and Technology, that is, “the Route and Organization of Garbage Disposal Technology in the Process of Urbanization” and “an Evaluative Mechanism for Chinese Living Environments.” Furthermore, it conducted projects sponsored by the World Bank, that is, “a Social Impact Assessment of the Project of Soil and Water Conservation in the Upper Reaches of the Yangtze River and the Pearl River” and “a Social Impact Assessment of Project of Migrant Workers Skill Training and Employment.” In addition, it conducted a projects sponsored by the Ministry of Water Resources’ Migration Bureau, “a Study of the Resettlement of Ethnic Minorities Caused by Water Conservancy and Hydropower Projects.” Also, it conducted a project sponsored by the Department of Transportation in Inner Mongolia, “a Social Impact Assessment of the Project of the Development of Trade and Transportation” Besides, it conducted two projects sponsored by the Institute of Survey and Design in Chengdu, that is, “a Social Impact Assessment of the Project of the Hydropower Station at the Shuangjiang Estuary in the Dadu River” and “a Social Impact Assessment of the Project of the Hydropower Station at the Monkey Rock in the Dadu River.”

Recently, the Department of Sociology published books, including Secondary Anxiety, Migrant Children and Their Acculturation in Cities, and a Leading-edge Report of Modern Life Styles. Also, it published over 10 articles in influential journals such as Social Sciences in China (Internal Journal), Sociological Studies, Chinese Sociology & Anthropology, and Chinese Journal of Sociology. Many of them won excellent research awards granted by Chinese Sociological Association and by the Department of Education in Jiangsu Province.

Also, the Department of Sociology held several academic conferences such as “Migration, Environment, and Harmonious society” (2005), “the International Symposium on Migrant Labor in Chinese Cities” (2005, Nanjing City, jointly held), “2007 the International Conference on Environmental Sociology in China” (Beijing City, jointly held), “the Second Conference on Environmental Sociology in China” (2009), “the International Symposium on Environmental Sociology in East Asia” (2013). Moreover, the faculty and students of the department took part in a lot of foreign and domestic academic communication.
