Mechanisms for student cultivation

Based on its educational experience, the Department of Sociology asks its graduate students not only to read classic sociological works but also to participate in field investigations. Besides, some auxiliary mechanisms are established to help students equip themselves.

Summer investigations and reports are necessary training before master students in sociology decide the topics of their dissertations. Students are asked to do their field investigations during their first summer vacation. When they come back to the university, they are asked to report their findings.

Hohai Sociology is a journal which publishes students’ articles, and which was edited by students. This journal is issued in spring and fall every year. The current issue is No. 16.

Incentive payments are given to students so as to encourage students to participate in their supervisors’ research projects and to choose relevant issues as the topics of their own dissertations.

Five bases for the practice of social work are established in Wuhu (August 2007), Shazhou High School (October 2007), Guli, Qilinmen, and Hushu (August 2013).
